A paper is a collection of several primary pieces of literature to produce a coherent argument regarding a topic. To put it simply, a paper is a publication concerning a particular topic. The paper can either be published in a Journal. A paper can also be a thesis.
The purpose of a paper review is to scrutinize recent progress in a particular topic. The paper is simply a summary of what an individual knows concerning a topic based on research conducted. The paper helps readers understand the current trends regarding a topic via the facts presented in the paper.
Scientists use a review paper to communicate with the general public as well as his fellow scientists about his findings of a certain subject.
So, Who Reviews Your Paper?
Naturally, papers are reviewed by editors and his team. The major aim of such reviews is to spot errors in such papers before they are approved for publication.
The steps involved in reviewing papers include the following:
Submission Of Paper
This is the first stage involved in reviewing a paper. The submitting author submits the paper he intends to be published to the journal. This submission may be through online systems and occasionally via emails.
Editorial Office Assessment
The journal then goes ahead to check the composition of the paper and the arrangements of the paper. These things are compared to the journal’s authors guideline to ensure that the paper includes the needed sections and styling. The quality of the paper is not assessed at this point.
Appraisal By The Editor-In-Chief
The Editor-In-Chief checks the paper to ensure it is original, interesting, and meets the appropriate for the journal.
Assignment Of Associate Editors
The Editor-In-Charge then assigned to go through the paper at this stage. Although some journals do not have Associate Editors.
Invitation To Reviewers
The handling editor, at this point, will invite individuals that would be suitable to review the work. The reviewers are normally two.
The potential reviewers will consider the invitation. If it suits their expertise and they’re available, they accept or otherwise, they decline.
Review Proper
The reviewers will now go through the paper. The first reading of the paper is to form an impression of its content. At this stage, the paper can be rejected. The paper is then read for several times if it scales the first reading.
In the end, a review is submitted to the journal with a suggestion to reject or accept it, and in some cases, revision.
Evaluation Of The Review
At this point, the handling editor will go through the review before making a decision. In some cases, he/she may invite other reviewers.
Communication Of Decision
On reaching his/her decision, the handling editor communicates the decision reached via an email to the author. If accepted, the paper will be published. If rejected, it will be sent to the author for minor or major revision.
Conclusion
It is important to take note of these steps to come up with a paper that will satisfy both the editor (who is the chief reviewer) and the other people in his/her team.
